"Flow Art" - Kucsora Márta, Suzan Woodruff

The show will feature recent works by Kucsora and Woodruff who share a common method that utilizes the natural fluidity or ‘flow’ of paint. Both artists have developed techniques that employ active manipulation of paint on a surface, and equally embrace spontaneous or accidental effects that result during the process. Reminiscent of abstract expressionist Helen Frankenthaler, their works are a cross between abstract and representation, and are clearly inspired by nature.
Suzan Woodruff is an acclaimed artist at the forefront of the flow art movement in Los Angeles, where there is a growing enclave of artists embracing the technique. Her works have been described as “elegant abstractions that capture the dynamism of natural phenomena, ranging from Turneresque sunsets to luscious seascapes and turbulent tornadoes.”
Kucsora is best known in Hungary for waterscapes that teeter on the border between landscape and abstraction. In her works Kucsora strives to capture the movement and dynamic energy of water. In 2007 three of her waterfall paintings were featured in the “Time of Painting” exhibition at the Hungarian National Gallery.
The two artists became acquainted when the Art Factory exhibited at the Art Now Fair in New York City last March during the Armory Show art week. Woodruff has come to Budapest to collaborate with Kucsora for one month in the Art Factory Studio.
